Broadening its assortment of upper-end products, bedding producer Restonic is unveiling new models here for two of its specialty bedding lines.
The company is adding one sleep set to its eco-friendly Blue Bed line, and also has an additional model for its Magnetic collection, which uses magnets in the top cushioning layers to provide therapeutic benefits.

The new Blue Bed model, which retails for about $1,899 in queen, combines latex foam with the company’s Eco Foam, a polyurethane foam cushioning that substitutes natural plant oils for some of the petroleum-based polyol that is used in the foam’s production. The product line also uses organic cotton ticking.

Some hotels change sheets every day. There are three sheets for each bed, one for the mattress, another on top of that, a blanket and a third sheet. All sheets are to be tucked in with what are usually referred to as “hospital corners.” Make sure you don’t get tangled up in the bed ruffle.

Depending on the room you’ve been assigned, you’ll be dealing with a king-size bed, a queen or two double beds.

You might have to deal with as many as 28 beds in one shift.

Some deluxe rooms feature a king-size mattress sunk into a wooden frame.

Be prepared to lift the mattress with one hand while making your corner with the other.

The bed is sheathed in sheets, and the corners of all of them have to be tucked in, but you also have to be careful not be tangled up in the ruffle of the bed’s skirt.

King- and queen-size beds have four pillows each. Each double bed has three. All the pillows are king-size, which makes changing the pillowcases more difficult.

Shoppers will once again be able to stick it to the state during an August sales tax holiday that lawmakers approved this week.

Gov. Deval Patrick has said he will sign the bill authorizing a state sales tax holiday on Aug. 16 and 17, marking the fifth consecutive year that state officials have opted to give shoppers a break.

But local retailers say that while they see a business boom on the holiday, shoppers often wait until that weekend to make their purchases, hurting sales during other weeks.

“On average we’ll do about a month and a half worth of business in two days,” said Jonathan Carlson, manager of Mattress Discounters in Dedham. “People postpone a purchase on a mattress six months just to save an additional 5 percent. All I think it’s doing is taking away from business for the rest of the year.”

Carlson said the average industry price for a queen-sized mattress set is about $1,000, meaning shoppers would save $50 during the holiday.
